offended?

tonight for date night we went to movie tavern. i love this place! eating and watching movies??? stellar idea!! we saw baby mama tonight. sooooo funny!!!! tina fey and amy poehler have great chemistry together. the only thing that made me cringe was in the movie, when tina’s character can’t get pregnant and she is telling her mom about surrogacy and other options like adoption…her mom says ‘just don’t get a black baby’….oooooohhhhh….

the mom then says something about ‘all these celebrities showing up with black babies just to have people look at them’ or something like that….so i turn to clayton and i’m like, ’should we walk out??’

we stayed and we still think the movie is hilarious….i mean the mom was apparently a waspy character and she has a right to her opinion and oh yeah…it’s just a movie!!!!!!

would you be offended by that?

LOL…I loved your post! I haven’t seen the movie but now I want to. Personally I wouldn’t be offended…my husband and I tried to adopt a little boy and his sister that were both black. Coming from an upbringing where my dad would use the “n” word on a pretty regular basis, I was a little concerned at how people would react. The whole thing fell through because of other reasons, but I can empathize that it wasn’t a necessarily comfortable position to be in. Truth of the matter is, every child needs a mother and father to love them and bring them up in a home that is safe, secure, loving, honest, consistent, grounded, and did I already say loving? Whether they are black, caucasian, asian, or any other race, it doesn’t matter. What you and Clayton are doing is tremendous and honorable. Don’t let people’s ignorant rants get to you to the point that you would miss the rest of the movie. In reality, anyone who would say that is probably just envious that couples like you are actually making a difference in the life of a child…instead of simply watching from the sidelines.
