this awesome website has these questions to answer every week. now that i’m back online and the baby is sleeping i have no excuses to not answer. so here we go…

Adoption General
Do you have any tips / advice / suggestions for your “Gotcha Day” for people preparing to travel to pick up their little one. . .This could include things that made your day special, an easier transition at home, etc. Tell us what worked (and what didn’t) for you.

deacon’s gotcha day was unreal. see the video here…but looking back it was pretty perfect. mostly because deacon has been the easiest and chillest baby since day one.

but that isn’t helpful to anyone so here we go…take about 100 more pictures than what feels appropriate. you will want more pictures and more video of the event when you get home. also, ask questions and meet people that have been around your child while in transition care. i wish i had asked more questions about who took care of deacon and what he was like in the care center.

buy more souvenirs than you think you can get on the plane. we didn’t buy enough stuff. one thing we want to do is when we celebrate deacon’s gotcha day every year we want to give him a gift from ethiopia…we kind of forgot this year and we have enough toys from ethiopia to maybe do this for the next 2 or 3 gotcha days. but then i guess we have to go back to ethiopia to get more (hint hint).

also, don’t overdue it on your gotcha day. we just went back to the hotel and took naps after lunch and hung out at the hotel just staring at deacon.
