meet the teacher

wow…this week has been crazy busy! i’ve been in meetings all week and when i wasn’t in a meeting i was trying to turn this…

into this….

i’m super excited about starting my new teaching job on monday…and while you can’t tell from this blog, i am teaching language arts and reading/ writing…i swear i know how to use punctuation correctly and how to capitalize.

that was me at meet the teacher night…i got to meet a ton of the students and i think i’m going to LOVE 5th grade…they are so fun!

also, i was reading a ton of new adoption blogs and i’m getting that idea in my head that it is time to seriously start thinking about baby #2 from ethiopia. but, while reading and checking out gladney’s site, i saw something about some new rule that children must be 2 years apart…so the child already at home and the child being adopted must be 2 years apart. does anyone know anything about this? also, what were we supposed to do after the re-adoption in texas? are we supposed to apply for citizenship??? i never got around to that and now i’m wondering if that is necessary?

of course, we wouldn’t actually be ready to start any paperwork for another couple of months b/c we are kind of nomads with our current housing situation. stupid fort worth housing market. i just like to plan way ahead…like 5 years ahead…and this new 2 years apart rule changes my plans.

  1. Hey Margo- I am trying to leave a comment, but we will see if this is what I need to do. Anyway…..your classroom looks great. I taught 5th grade for half a year. I am subbing this year since we are moving again in December. It has its moments, but I miss having my own classroom. You are going to have a great year!!!

  2. Hey Margo-
I hope you have a SUPER first day of teaching. Your room looks great!!!!! My mom wanted me to tell you good luck also and after 30 years of teaching she would never trade it for anything in the world. She and I hope you have a great year.

  3. Thanks for the comments girls! I’ll remember your encouraging words when I start to go crazy with those 5th graders!!!

  4. You’re going to be great. No surprise there. Question? Have you seen Rainn’s new movie?

  5. Margo - hope 5th grade is fabulous - I know you’re a great teacher. Interesting to hear you are as confused about the citizenship thing as I am - I got so “paperworked” out that I haven’t done that last remaining piece. I think we do have to do some final form - I’ll let you know what I find out. Take care and have a blast this year!

  6. We have actually checked into the age difference deal …. We too are praying we can start the process in the fall/winter. Please LORD! Anyway, Silas may already be 2 by then I guess… BUT, we asked Mary about it and she said that the rule doesn’t apply to adopted families… just 6 months is what you have to wait to start the process. :) Unless there is ANOTHER new rule…. I think that is it.

Just what if we are on our 2nd adoption at the same time too? That would be loco Mrs. Faulkner, loco. :)

  7. 5th grade is a great grade. You will be able to have intelligent conversations with them. They are more independent. I taught 5th grade for 3 years. I absolutely loved it. The only thing you have to worry about is their hormones by December! =) HAHAHAH They will begin to be so boy and girl crazy…it’s very funny. Don’t worry, the meetings never stop. They just keep coming. I guess it’s a teacher thing. I am so ready for this first week to be over. I’m so tired! Congrats on this job.
